Sometimes I like to check out urbansketchers for inspiration to draw my surroundings. I like the styles of these two artists. The line work captures mood, movement and mystery enough to look twice.

We Are All Happy Children

Lately I've been busy acting in a film about a north korean dissident artist who washes ashore a California beach, experiences the western art world, and tries to make sense of her painful experience as a defector/surviver through an art installation of her own making. We watched a documentary on north korea to ground us in our subject and the whole filming experience got me thinking about what a privilege it is to live in a world where free speech is honored.

I've moved to Massachusetts and, although I grew up here, I miss the dreamy vastness of California's farms, oceans, forests and rivers and my heart aches in a way that will never be soothed by the Massachusetts landscape. But here's to change, growth, learning, and seeing an old place with new eyes.

Buckminster Fuller's 25 Great Circles

Love the lines, colors, and patterns in these three images. Makes me want to create something abstract, well balanced, and beautiful.

Side note: Buckminster Fuller was this harvard drop out (or...he got expelled twice) who patented the geodesic dome and concerned himself with sustainability. He coined this term 'ephemeralization' meaning to 'do more with less' and said, "I live on Earth at present, and I don't know what I am. I know that I am not a category. I am not a thing- a noun. I seem to be a verb, an evolutionary process- an integral function of the universe." I hear ya Bucky.
